Morning Comments and Conversations

This morning as we were driving in the car:
Abby: Mom, I really want to ride a squirrel.

You may wonder what the context of that comment was. It came shortly after she told me at afica and mafica rhyme.

Also this morning in the car:

Haley: Mom, do unicorns live at Disneyland?
Me: No, honey. But it does seem like there should be unicorns at Disneyland.
Haley: Then where do unicorns live?
Me: In enchanted forests.
Haley: Where's the enchanted forest?
Me: In your imagination. There aren't any real enchanted forests, but you can imagine them.
Haley: But where are the unicorns.
Me: Honey, there aren't real unicorns.

At this comment, Haley's eyes welled up with tears. It was so sad. I wished I could make unicorns real for her.

Me: I don't know why God didn't make unicorns, but He didn't.

After a few moments of silence...
Haley: I'm gonna pray that God will make unicorns.

(Katie, obviously I was thinking of you through that conversation.)

Haley and Abby's biological grandparents gave us a whole bunch of baby pictures of the girls. It's so fun to see them when they were so small (also a little heart wrenching, because I SO wish I could have held them and loved them then). Here are a few for y'all to enjoy:

Happy Halloween

Yesterday we went to a Halloween party at Carey's work.



Tonight, I took the girls trick or treating while Carey and Seth stayed home.







Uncle Nate, or should I say Uncle Sam, stopped by to "trick or treat" at our house!

I don't have a baby book for any of the kids, so I depend on the blog for documenting their lives! So, this post might be a little boring, but, there are some things to document.

Seth's at one of those ages where he is doing SO many new things. About a week ago he started saying "hi" and "bye", which is so adorable. He says "hi" if I walk past him playing. He says "hi" as he looks out the window and sees cars go by. Usually the "bye" comes after a person walks out the door, but it's still so cute.

Also, two days ago he stood up without pulling himself up on anything, "stooped and recovered" (bent down and stood back up without falling), and took his first steps. He's certainly not walking yet, but he is doing good taking anywhere from 3-10 steps at a time. Carey and I were in the kitchen and I could see him out of the corner of my eye, going towards Haley. Haley said "Ummm...Seth's walking." and I realized that he wasn't holding onto the wall like I had thought he had been. I love that his first steps were toward his big sister Haley.

A Little Practice

Today at Haley and Abby's preschool they got to "practice" trick or treating. It was so darling. Parents were invited, and when Carey and I got there, all the kids were sitting on the edge of the sandbox, looking as adorable as can be in their costumes. Their teacher was going over trick or treat etiquette with them (knock, say trick or treat, say thank you). When it was time, they went in groups, with parent escorts to four different doors with teachers and candy waiting for them. They went to the front and back door at the preschool, and then the front and back door at the head teacher's house (which is on the same property). Afterward everyone gathered back in the play yard and enjoyed some treats. I over heard a mom tell her son that he could have one treat and he replied "yep, and the rest is for the morning!"

Fall

Abby and Haley are really "into" fall right now. So, I thought it would be fun to take a rake to a neighborhood park and make a leaf pile for them to jump in. Well, let me tell you, we were the hit of the park. We made about five other little friends that joined in the fun. Oh, and I'll take this opportunity to brag a little and say that the girls did SO well taking turns with all those other little kids.
